Hypocrites and the degeneration of mankind

Behold the turtle, He only makes progress when he sticks his neck out - James Bryant Conant

The sea was rough today. The waves were crashing onto children and their sandcastles, dogs with their play items, and not forgetting the tiny crabs and sea shells...

With it arrived the turtle.

The massive creature crept across the beach waddling through mounds of sand which were mahoosive obstacles for this tired creature. After a great struggle, he gave up. He gave up, and spread himself amongst the rubble on the beach.

Crows were circling around it, dogs were barking and trying to attack, but not a sign of movement from this glorious creature.

I watched it all from afar.

I felt proud to have seen this majestic being relaxing on the beach and not bothered by anything or anyone. I felt ashamed of how I am moved by what others think about me or what others do to intimidate me...and with this thought I approached it..

That was when I realized.

It was dying.
It couldn't be strained anymore. Eyes were full of pain and sides streaked with blood. This was the moment where it all ended.. I couldn't bear to watch. It was too painful for me to see a turtle who could to live for hundreds of years more was at its deathbed right in front of me.

A tear ran down my cheek.

And with that it had its last breath. It was over, nothing more could be done here.
The wounds were already infected and the stench was attracting the loathsome houseflies.

I turned around and faced the ocean

That was when I heard the men speak. "Ikmanata muge katta gaththa nung hari" (Quick, let's get its shell) Why is everything in this world tainted with greed? Every moment is exploited and is regarded as an opportunity? Why not let the turtle be? Let it decay into the ocean where it was born and raised...Let it once again be a part of the circle of life? But no, cruelty in mankind would make them rip the creature apart, use the flesh as meat and shell as decorations.

What evil did that turtle do to deserve such a fate? Has it ever harmed any one of us? This is the irony of life as they call it. The best part is how we are able to live with it all and walk away as if nothing is erroneous.

I am the hypocrite who passed those men and walked towards to horizon.

Every child is special

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

"Akki, you SO have to watch this!" The next thing I know is, I'm being dragged in front of the TV to watch a Hindi Film. I like Hindi films...I like to watch them when I have absolutely nothing better to do because most of them are very predictable.

So, as I sat on the sofa to witness another soppy hindi film, I thought to myself NEVER to succumb to my sister's wishes ever again. But to be honest, it was one of the best films I had watched! The plot was brilliant and not a cliche (like many other hindi films)

From the beginning of the film till the end, I was mesmerized. None of the scenes were predictable. It brought out the ignorance of most people when it comes to children with special needs. Most parents are oblivious to Autism, Dyslexia and other such problems and confuse them with the child's laziness to work or "ATTITUDE" as they call it.

Ishaan, the protagonist is notably a child with special needs. This is overlooked by his parents because he does not look abnormal. His inability to read and write is, in his parents' eyes, merely a "STUBBORN ATTITUDE TOWARDS SCHOOL WORK" What they fail to realize is the pattern of his mistakes which relates to Dyslexia.

Later it is revealed that Ishaan has above average intelligence. Aamir Khan uses comparisons with Thomas Alva Edison, Albert Einstein etc to show the audience that even children with special needs can turn out to be World Famous.

If you ever come across "Taare Zameen Par" make sure that you watch it. Moving and very touching, it'll change your perspectives on life VERY subtly!

End to Peace and Beginning of War

Ah yes, the early morning news: Bomb in Buttala 23 killed, 67 injured, another bomb to follow this topped off with some gunfire and the president of SL has "taken measures to assist those in need in this area"

Lovely isn't it? You wake up in the morning, listen to the Ghastly stories which is probably "Music to most of our ears" because we are apparently "WINNING THE WAR" and it will all "END BY MID 2008".

No, but really......WHO are we fooling? Does NO ONE in this country understand the FUTILITY of WAR?
Each side blames the other, and apparently (according to each side) they are winning. WHO is winning? WHAT is happening? How are we to know? Do we SEE what is going on? We believe what we HEAR! How Marvelous! And to see, we have a literacy rate 90 something percent. Yet, we don't have the BRAINS to realize what is really happening here.

Yes, we are killing the LTTE soldiers.....does that mean that they are not killing us? The war which has been happening for the last 30 years is going to end in 6 months? You really think so?

If anyone of you has watched Kingdom (WARNING: SPOILER CONTENT- do not read if you have not watched the Kingdom) and remember the last part of it..... You will realize WHAT I am talking about. The main terrorist in the movie whispered to his grandson before his death " We will KILL THEM ALL" and at the beginning of the film, the FBI dude says the same about the Terrorist. The IRONY of it: Both parties fail to achieve this objective.

Yes, say we killed off all of the LTTE by mid 2008. Do you really think that'll be the end of it? There are thousands of LTTE supporters who believe in their "Cause". Will they not continue their fight?

Rhetorical Questions really do amuse me......... :|

A new beginning???

I highly doubt it. Sorry for being such a cynic, but 2008 seems worse than ever in Sri Lanka. During the 1st week itself there were shootings and bombings not too mention price hikes.

Yesterday we went out to have lunch with a couple of buddies.... and we realized that out of what we ate, we gave like a quarter of the money to the bloody government. For what? Continue the war which is (ACCORDING TO THOSE BIASED IDIOTS) going to end soon.
Wake up and smell reality people! This is a guerrilla war you're talking about! And SAY we won this war by hook or by crook, what is the guarantee that this whole so called "Ethnic Situation" won't rise again?

Oh well, everything seems so expensive nowadays, it's a headache when planning an outing. The hypocrisy is that while everyone else is suffering and paying HUGE taxes, the hundreds of ministers are enjoying away...

First of all, if MR is SO sure of winning this war, the first thing he should do is cut additional costs of all ministers..we seem to be paying taxes NOT for the war to progress but to fatten our ministers as well as himself and his family.

I really want to go on about this topic, but I will leave it for tomorrow as I have to jet off.. GRRRR!

Accurate innit?

Hustle and Bustle (Part I)

Monday, October 08, 2007

Seated in Seat No. 7A, I kept glancing at my watch from the time the plane took off from Bandaranaiyake International Airport. Being aviophobic, I kept getting panic attacks when the plane experienced turbulence. It was probably the longest 3 hours of my life... I kept having visions and flashbacks from my life, now when I come to think of it, it was all absurd really. Oh well, an aviophobic's gotta do what an aviophobic's gotta do! (nearly pass out while having panic attacks) Amidst the turbulence, a crowded plane and stale air, I remembered old times, with friends, family etc and how I'm missing out on all those happy times now. (It was all to do with the fear of dying really to be honest) Gosh, I'm so darn paranoid I missed hanging out with my friends (keep in mind that my friends are now scattered all over the world) and I had a sense of something missing deep inside.

After 3 long hours, I had a glimpse of shimmery lights and tiny moving lights crawling along vertical strips, amidst the clouds. The view was spectacular! Just then the announcement was made: "Good Evening Ladies and Gentleman, this is your captain speaking, we kindly request you to remain in your seats with your seatbelt on as we will be landing shortly at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Hope you had an enjoyable flight and we hope to be able to serve you once again. Thank you"
Enjoyable Flight? You have got to be shitting me! In an instance I was wearing my seatbelt. Now was probably the time of doom..This was it. We are probably going to crash land. In a few minutes I felt the plane beginning to land. That was the time that I remember pulling my camera out of my backpack and thinking to myself, If I'm gonna die now, I might as well video the god damn thing! So, there I was, holding the cam with one shivering hand while the plane jerked and trembled while landing.

So, the outcome of my whole bravery? Erm...No, I haven't got rid of the aviophobia just yet. The outcome is actually....this!(Pls note that due to the flight's jerkiness, the outcome has also experience the above mentioned): Sorry folks... The outcome cannot be uploaded since its a HUGE file :(

Amore? Yep!!!

Just being a wee bit creative :]

*Feasts on Fingernails*

I am just lying awake here, not able to bear the curiousity......
It is Sunday the 22nd of July 2007 and it is 2am here in Sri Lanka. Instead of hitting the sheets at this time of day, I am browsing pictures and comments on the long awaited finale in frustration.

Yes, I knew I would have to go through the pain of curiousity when I did not make a reservation. Why? you may ask.....simple: Merely because at that moment of time, I was indigent.*sighs*

Only a couple of hours more till my side-kick completes her task of riding the rollercoaster filled with mystery, joy and ofcourse the dreaded sorrow!

*Glances at watch*

It is 2.02am now.. Gah! I wish time flew......So that I can grab the treasure from my side-kick and make a run for it.....into my room and seep into its enchantment minute by minute until hours have passed and I have reached the end..

So many rumours, and not forgetting the spoilers... I am still browsing the net for that particular valuable while dodging the spiteful spoilers... AAGGHH!!!

*Stares at more pictures*

I continue to gaze at pictures for that is all I can do at this moment......
And with that, I make up my mind finally to get some rest so that I can spend the rest of my day without a wink of sleep, engulfed in its bewitchment...

*~Nish~*

Peace or War?!?!?!?

Thursday, August 10, 2006

First of all....im wondering if the president and his other FRIENDS (as in the JVP and JHU) are actually in the country these days...cuz we are hearing very little from them...Remember those days when the elections were going on??? The way they were screaming abt how the UNP was trying to give away a part of the country etc etc....???? Good joke isnt it??? At least those days there were no bombs and such brutal killings unlike nowadays.... And now they are blaming the ceasefire agreement for all the problems... The prob with Sri Lankans are that they forget the past VERY SOON! Little do they remember that even before the ceasefire agreement the LTTE freely roamed around the country....that they could bomb all the main buildings of SL (which happened) and even bomb the bloody airport......and mind u ppl...this was BEFORE the CFA!!!!! but........our poor souls dnt remember these........

And where are these ppl who were screaming their guts off those days.....where's Mr. Weerawansa and them??? Oh yeah....i forgot....They are PROTESTIN..... (as usual..) but check this out folks.....they arent protesting against the LTTE this time...instead they are urging the UN to help Lebanon...What a joke!!!!! Honestly??? Can ppl be soo jobless and ignorant? When we have a crisis situation here wit the LTTE, our ppl are trying to help OTHER countries... without atleast TRYING to take SOME kind of action against the LTTE!!! This is why I think that our country is beyond repair.....I'm normally very very optimistic abt stuff but when it comes to this topic...i think that as long as there are dumb kind of ppl like Mr.Weerawansa and the the monks from JHU....our country will NEVER develop.....nor will the wounds heal....!!! Im a buddhist but Im ashamed about the behaviour of those monks of the JHU....If anyone is going to the "apaya"(hell) it'll be them first and then the rest of the ppl........

Honestly I think peace is better than war but the peace settlement should be carefully and well structured....there should be NO loopholes what so ever! The LTTE cannot be brushed off by big mouths who dont do anything other than shout to solve probs....it must be done by using BRAINS....A good plan could actually set a trap to wipe those Mother Fuckers off! So like someone said (in Dimi's blog) war is bad but bad peace is the worst!!!!

To the JVP- Loketa parakase gedarata maragade!!!!!

Life is a rollercoaster...just gotta ride it! (seriously???)

Thursday, July 13, 2006

Wut a cliche huh????? It's such a hackneyed phrase (especially because Mr Keating had a song with this phrase in his lyrics as well as the title) that ppl are like...."Hey! Enough with that already!!!" But I'm a sorta person who realizes that these simple phrases mean a lot at times...

Since I'm right after my A/Ls and since I MAGNIFICENTLY completed them by writing BRILLIANT answers (NOTE THE SARCASM) it was a period of mixed emotions for me... I was happy and excited because the sh*t was over and sad about the fact that I screwed it up and was confused about my future..... So, the ppl in my household was pretty much suffering due to my mood swings... :( Later I decided to start doing CIM. (I dnt know why the hell I wanted to do it...probably bcuz it was the only thing I liked out of the options I had which allowed me to start with O/L results and was comparatively cheap..) And now I'm continuing going for classes for CIM (thank god its part time and only takes up my weekend.... AAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!) See..... I'm happy that Its on weekends and sad that I cnt even go partying on weekends.... *SIGH. Oh well..back to the topic, After going for CIM classes and spending the rest of my week basking in boredom (hmm...I'm using Alliteration... lol) I decided to do someting worthwhile with my time. So I eventually posted my C.V to the UN (for those who don't know...The United Nations!! Seriously, some ppl were like what's UN? Outta jokes..!!! :S) Anywez, guess what? They chose me to be an intern!!!! I don't know for what wacky reason they chose me...but they DID! That was it! My life was recovering rapidly after it took a turn for the worse during A/Ls... It had alwez been my dream to be working at the UN and there it was....right in front of me. (I even went in a big UN vehicle....Yaaaahoooooo!!!) I knw I knw....I'm being very juvenile.....but I'm sure everyone has a childlike qualities inside of us...... :) And right after my first day at work, when thaththi came to pick me up... guess what was being played on the radio???? Life is a rolercoaster- by Ronan Keating. Then it actually got me thinking.... Life IS INDEED a huge rolercoaster.... probably the tallest, longest, freakiest ride ever!!!! But it still has its ups and downs..... U just have to ride it.... and no matter how bad or how good the ride was, at the end of it......u feel thrilled about the fact that you actually had the guts to ride it and you feel like riding it again just for the heck of it.... So, to all those out there, who are pretty much confused about life and depressed about it.... believe me, Life ain't that bad!!! There's alwez the downs which are usually followed by the Ups, and even if you feel like jumping off the rolercoaster...U simply cannot! Thus, we keep riding, hoping to god that you will come out of the coaster in one piece.... Compare your life to a rolercoaster and you will be amazed at how many similarities they both have. So, my friends and foes..... keep riding the rolercoaster of life and try to create an ending where you will be thrilled and happy about the ride and thus want to ride it again!!! Cheers! And may the triple gem bless you alwez!

Finally....the end of a suffocating period!!!

Friday, June 16, 2006

I finally finished doing it! (I meant my A/Ls you sickos...) lolz! Now I'm kind of bored and all, without it....lolzzzz!! I know, I know, WEIRD ha? (BTW, A/Ls SUCKED BIG TIME!!!) Yes....but life goes on now! Yaaaaaaaay! I don't even mind goin back to the same old routine...(Refer to "LIFE FALLS INTO RUTS OF ROUTINE" post) But now that I'm kind of jobless, maybe I could make some slight adjustments in my routine... (Come to think of it....I'm not jobless cuz I've got loads of stuff planned on my Agenda) But, I'm sure I wont get half of that done, cuz even after my O/Ls I planned soooo much but couldn't even complete half of those which were "PLANNED" :( *SIGH

Anywez, other than my crappy A/Ls and my stupid plans...I've realized that life ain't that bad... As long as you go with the flow, things just fall into its right place. I know this sounds weird but, seriously... GO WITH THE FLOW... If you succeed Good for you, if you fail Try Again!!! Thats the way it works! Well...right now fellow bloggers and everyone that's reading my posts... I'm NOT in the mood to write....but in the mood to PARTAY and go wiiiild! Yaaaaay! So, will bounce off now! Till we meet again....CHEERS!!!

Life falls into ruts of routine.....

Friday, June 09, 2006

Well........ The Lit paper is finally over. Unfortunately it was too good to be true.....in other words it was a deceptive, seemingly easy paper.... *SIGH.. Oh well...Life goes on...
I've also finished my 1st and 2nd Geography Papers.........
Unfortunately we have a 3rd as well.... *SIGH (again)
I've gone through my Narayan again....(You know what? I've got really attached to that Narayan Book now....I used to hate it in the beginning with all the self-realization crap etc etc..... but now its like WHOA!):D Anyway...moving on....I'm gonna qoute from Narayan AGAIN! "Life falls into ruts of routine" Doesnt this phrase remind you of anything????? Well...it did to me...And the first thing I remembered was...MY LIFE! lolzz! No...Outta jokes! During these few weeks it's been like getting up in the morning, brushing my teeth, having a wash, having breakfast, lamenting about what I screwed up in my last A/L paper and then going back to studying, fudging around, resuming the study etc etc etc. *ho hum (I'm really over using this word aren't I? Believe it or not,I got used to it since I watched Ernie and Bert on Sesami Street....LOL!!! Outta jokes)
So, as Narayan says.....Life does fall into ruts of routine. And sometimes it can frustrate you a hell of a lot!

Today after exams....thaththi came to pick me up... Then he was like...So? how were the papers? I replied with a sigh hoping that he would get the hint....BUT NO!!! He then says.. 2 A's already huh? WOW! Just then....Steam blew out my ears and nose...I was FURIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAGGGGHHHHH!!! Wanted to tear up the whole Earth into millions and millions of tiny (mind you.. very tiny) pieces!!! After I bit my own hand for a while (i know its dumb...but that was the only thing that i had to bite...NO! I dont BITE EVERYTHING!!!) i felt much better..... Then when I came home I received bad news about one of my childhood teachers. He had passed away......That was it! I couldn't take it anymore..... After a while staying locked up in my room, I went into my bathroom with soggy, red eyes... YES! I cried. Then it felt a whole lot better! (Wonder why crying helps?....I mean Scientifically...)

Hmm.....Life falls into ruts of routine. So here I am trying to post something worth while but failing miserably! :( *SIGH! So, its Night time and according to ROUTINE it's waaay past my bed time. Too tired to break the routine and try something innovative right now..... SO Im off ta bed! Good night folks! Take Care! Zzzzzzz....................................................

Living without illusions....

Thursday, June 08, 2006

Well.... I finally got my blog! After days of struggling hard to find the perfect name for it...I finally found a name which was not TAKEN!
I'm doing my A/Ls right now....yeah I Know that you are all wondering what Im doing posting stuff here without cramming myself to study hard... but just to let you know, This is a type of escapism... it takes your mind off the miserable side of life and helps you relax... (not that I've been working real hard to study, I've alwayz been relaxing...lol!) Well....back to the original subject.... I've finally realized that living without illusions is the greatest task in life! (though I'm qouting from Narayan, it takes a hell of a lot of time to realize something like that...)
During my A/Ls I found out many things about life... Such as friends and foes, survival in the outside world, fighting for what is right, getting in shit for committing the wrong, and a whole load more..... It first started off when my so called "clique" decided to walk their respective paths and they all vanished into all corners of the world... Some went to International schools while the rest went abroad! Then it hit me.....Shit! I'm all alone now.... When I decided to do Arts for my A/Ls everyone was like.... Arts???? Why???? Don't you have enough results to do something like Bio or Maths... I mean...I'm sure even Commerce is better than ARTS!!! Ho Hum... Thus you have the hypocrisy of Society. (yet another lesson to be learned by many more to come) NO! I do have enough results...infact I had more than i expected..... 7 whole A's and 1 little B (no...Im not boasting) but the fact that I was doing Arts disturbed the minds of many around me... But since my parents were like... Arts? That's fine! I went ahead (though with many doubts in my mind) After much trouble I decided to take up Geography, Literature and Statistics. I soon came to LOVE Lit thanks to my BELOVED.. let me repeat, BELOVED teacher Mrs. Rajasingham... then there was Geography, which remains my favourite subject for life. Stats was like... yeah ok i guess! lol! Since it was the only mathematical subject I was taking up, i tended to have a certain dislike towards it..(still do)
Some time later the friends that I had in school decided to walk the BIO path.. Then came their inadequate opinions on how hard the subjects are and about how Arts was NOTHING compared to it... Some even called the Arts section SIBERIA... Actually it was completely the opposite of Siberia.... it was probably like the Galapagos Islands.... Mysterious yet fascinating with lots to see and learn from! Later I found myself "hanging out" with someone whom I never thought I'd be friends with... We soon became close friends as we shared the same view points about majority of subjects. But Unfortunately her old friends were a bit dominative and she decided to spend more time with them than me... Well, I can't blame her, I mean they were her old buddies and she was obviously more attached to them than me.. (no, im NOT lesbo)
Later on there were ups and downs in school, where we fought against narrow-minded opinions etc and realized that people who have narrow view points will not succumb to some lamentations of an 18 year old.....
Then.. again came the loneliness.....I was ignored by friends, pushed and pulled from either side etc etc.... But i managed to cope up with life.. Then my oldest pal Ravini whom I'd lost contact with appeared like an Angel to study Stats with me.. Sure enough we caught up with each others lives soon and she made me feel all happy again....
Then crept in the competition against students.. Scholars arrived to grade 12 and the horrible memories of the past emerged (when the grade 6 scholars came to school we totally freaked out that we'll lose our domain... LOL) How pathetic huh? well..... life is somewhat pathetic isn't it.... Ho Hum (again)lol! :D

And now it's the ending to school life.. Though I'm happy to leave school, I can't help thinking that I will regret it... All these years life was drawn out for us..and it was easy since we just had one path to follow...SCHOOL! But now its like, You've suddenly come to this junction where there are many paths to follow but you're not sure which way is correct. And this time parents can't help because it's gonna be your life!

Life is full of Illusions my friends...we feel happy when we make plans for the future but then realize its futility when things go wrong.... Thus living without illusions is actually (as Narayan says) "the greatest task in life!"

And to those who decide to conveniently SKIP A/Ls... My advice to you is DON'T! The experience you get during those last two years of school will last a life time and make you a totally different person thus enabling you to think better and do well in life!

Adios! May the triple gem bless you all always!

Reduce your environmental footprint
